After fire,Karnataka corpn buses to have emergency measures like airlines

Bus manufacturers been asked to give emergency doors instead of breakable glass enclosures.

Days after 45 people were killed when a private bus headed from Bangalore to Hyderabad caught fire, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC),which operates a fleet of 500 luxury buses, has decided to implement a safety and emergency drill on the lines of that followed by airlines.

A circular to initiate the safety drill was issued on October 31,a day after the incident. Similar to the in-flight safety instructions,KSRTC bus crew will also announce safety guidelines at the start of a journey.

“The crew will inform passengers about the display signs and exits. They will personally reach out to the passengers sitting next to the emergency doors to instruct them on how to use the hammer to break the glass or to operate a lever that will open the door during emergencies,” said KSRTC managing director N Manjunath Prasad.
