A number of Congress leaders, including some ministers, had planned to skip Parliament on Friday and go out of Delhi for the weekend as nothing significant was scheduled. However, party floor managers realised that the House was to pass the vote of thanks to the Presidents Address in both the Houses the same day. In such a scenario,if the united opposition insisted on a voting, the government could have been in for an embarrassment. Accordingly,on Thursday evening urgent calls were made to all members, asking them to remain present in the House on Friday. The loser in the bargain was Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily, who had to cancel his plan to attend the cremation of one of his close friends, who passed away in Bangalore on Thursday.
