2 lynched for misbehaving with pilgrims

Two persons were lynched by villagers Sunday night when they allegedly misbehaved with a few pilgrims on their way from Katwa to Guskara in West Bengals Burdwan district....

Two persons were lynched by villagers Sunday night when they allegedly misbehaved with a few pilgrims on their way from Katwa to Guskara in West Bengals Burdwan district.

Police said Momo Sheikh and Ayesh Sheikh were injured after being beaten up by villagers at Srikhand. Police rescued and shifted them to Burdwan Medical college,where they later died.

SDPO Katwa Jyotirmoy Roy said police have begun a probe into the incident.

Following the incident,locals blocked the Burdwan-Katwa road and the police rushed to the spot to remove the blockade. A woman has lodged a complaint with the Katwa police station that few persons misbehaved with her on Sunday night.

Thousand of pilgrims visited a temple at Gushkara after taking a holy bath in the Ganga at Katwa. Pilgrims have to walk 60 km from Katwa to the temple.
