1 dead,6 injured in train collision near Kolkata

One person was killed and six injured when two EMU locals on the Eastern Railways Sealdah-Ranaghat section collided head-on at Phulia station

One person was killed and six injured when two EMU locals on the Eastern Railways Sealdah-Ranaghat section collided head-on at Phulia station,about 80 km from Kolkata,around 8 pm on Saturday. The head-on collision took place when Shantipur-Sealdah local,which was coming from opposite direction,hit a stationary Sealdah-Shantipur local on platform no. 2 at Phulia.

Meanwhile,an inquiry has been ordered by the railway authorities. Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured.
