As another officer, sports secretary Kashmira Singh, was shifted today over an order reserving 50-per cent seats in sports colleges and hostels, speculation mounted that CM Mayawati was planning to axe some others for allegedly leaking a World Bank letter to the press.

Citing Mayawati’s action against two officers over the sports row, officials said more heads will roll over the leak of the WB letter threatening to withdraw aid to the state over frequent transfers.

Mayawati’s statement in the House denying any such letter, they say, clearly hints at this. She had also reiterated that there was no question of the Bank commenting on her dream project, the Ambedkar Gram Yojna.

This paper had, incidentally, quoted Information Secretary Rohit Nandan on the letter. Even today, a local paper carried the full text of the letter written by Country Director of the World Bank, Edwin R. Lim, to Chief Secretary D.S. Bagga, expressing concern over transfers in projects aided by the Bank.
