Days after India and China decided to talk about differences related to the Sikkim boundary, Defence Minister A K Antony said India does not want a confrontation as there was a 8220;national consensus8221; to resolve boundary disputes through the dialogue process.
Asserting that New Delhi was not 8220;ignoring8221; reports of Chinese incursions along the border, the minister said 8220;India was in the process of finding a solution to the longstanding dispute through dialogue8221;.
Antony8217;s statement comes less than a week after the countries, during Pranab Mukherjee8217;s visit, decided that Sikkim would be discussed between special representatives at an early date.
However, in a balancing act of sorts, Antony announced the setting up of an Integrated Space Cell to counter the 8220;growing threat8221; to Indian space assets. 8220;Offensive counter space systems like anti-satellite weaponry, new classes of heavy-lift and small boosters and an array of Military Space Systems have emerged in our neighbourhood,8221; the Minster said, in a veiled reference to China.
