More than 10 hours after the Jammu Tawi-Ahmedabad Express met with an accident, local railway authorities had little information about Gujarat-bound passengers. But they maintained that passengers travelling in the reserved coaches were safe. The authorities were prompt to start a helpline after getting the news. They also had the names of 54 Gujarat-bound passengers who had boarded the reserved coaches. But they were still waiting for the names of the dead.

Late in the evening, station manager C.P. Varma said they had received a list of 30 injured passengers and 8216;8216;none of them is from Gujarat.8217;8217; The authorities told anxious callers that all Gujarat passengers were safe.

CM Narendra Modi, who is on a trip to Australia, expressed shock over the incident and asked the chief secretary and relief commissioner to arrange rescue and relief operations.

Meanwhile, the Jammu Tawi-Ahmedabad Express resumed its journey around 9 pm today and is expected to arrive here on Thursday morning.
