VUDA moots Chhani overbridge

VADODARA, Aug 27: The Vadodara Urban Development Authority VUDA has stressed the need to build an overbridge near Chhani to ease traffic congestion and plan for a group water works scheme for 50 villages falling within its limits in a representation by Authority chairman Krishnakant Shah to Roads and Buildings Minister Savjibhai Korat and Water Resources Minister Narrotambhai Patel.

He said nearly 5,000 vehicles passed through Chhani daily under bridge on the national highway number 8, Shah said that currently there is no plan by the Roads and Buildings Department to construct the overbridge.

He said the bridge could be constructed with the help of the VUDA, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation, IPCL, GSFC and the State Government. Quoting projections, he said nearly 25,000 vehicles were expected to pass from the route in the years to come. He hoped that the overbrigde could even improve the safety standards as the trucks plying between the area carried hazardous goods.
