The police on Monday confirmed the body of 20-year-old Virar resident, which was found hanging in a beach resort near Arnala recently, had some slash marks on his hands.
Senior Police Inspector Pradeep Mane from the Virar police station said, “The manager of the Mohan Resort on Thursday morning informed us about the body of Shailendra Shukla which was found hanging from the ceiling with a bed sheet used as a noose. During examination of the body, we found slash marks on his wrists. We also recovered a small jack-knife from his trouser’s pockets, which might have been used by Shukla to injure himself.”
Mane added the enquiries indicate that Shukla probably slashed himself first in an attempt to kill self, and when that did not work out, he used a bed-sheet to hang himself. Shukla, a resident of Manvelpada in Virar, was a student of the Viva College and used to stay with his parents and a younger brother.
“Though we have not found any suicide note from the spot, we believe he might have taken this step due to some problems at home. Unless his family returns from their native place, we would not be able to question them about it,” he said.
As per Mane, the police have also questioned the resort manager as Shukla used to go there often with friends. “He told us that Shukla had come alone to the resort on late Wednesday night and demanded a room.
When asked as to why he was alone, Shukla apparently told him that he had left his house after a quarrel with parents and now needed a place to spend the night. As the manager knew him from previous visits, he made a room available for him. The next day, the manager discovered Shukla’s body hanging from the ceiling and he informed the police,” Mane said.
The police are now waiting for Shukla’s family to return so that they can be questioned about any trouble Shukla might have been facing at home or at his college, which may have compelled him to commit suicide.
