MYSORE, AUG 14: Karnataka Government8217;s decision to drop TADA cases against 51 suspected associates of forest brigand Veerappan to meet one of the bandit8217;s demands to secure the release of Kannada thespian Rajkumar and three others, was questioned in a court here today, resulting in adjournment of further hearing of the case to August 16.

When District and Sessions Judge Rajendra Prasad took up hearing of the cases, Abdul Kareem, father of M Shakeel Ahmed, a police sub-inspector who was killed in an ambush by Veerappan in 1992, filed objections to dropping of the cases.

Seventy-six year old Kareem, in his objection before the court, alleged that because of the unfortunate abduction of Kannada filmstar Dr Rajkumar by Prime accused Veerappan due to the reported lapses of the Special Task Force, Karnataka had yielded to the quot;blackmailing tactics of Veerappan and surrendered to his illegal demands and has come out openly to withdraw all cases against the brigand.quot;

Kareem contended that the heinous offences committed by the accused were offences against society and 8220;I am the father of the valiant police officer, Shakeel Ahmed, who was killed by Veerappan and his gang in the prime of his life.8221;

The petitioner contended that Karnataka Government had given no urgent reasons as to its illogical decisions to drop the cases in violation of the provisions of TADA.

8220;I submit that due to Veerappan8217;s barbarity and banditry 8212; many innocent civilians, brave policemen and forest officers 8212; will suffer irreparably if the cases against hard core criminals are withdawn or if they are released on bail, said Kareem.8221;

Kareem wanted the public prosecutor to inform the court the reasons for withdrawal of cases. The judge then asked the objections to be circulated to advocates appearing for the detenus.
