KOLHAPUR, Aug 28: Vice-Chancellor D.N. Dhanagare said here yesterday that he blamed the delay in announcing results on the work-to-rule by the Shivaji Vidyapeeth Sevak Sangh. He hinted at the possibility of major changes in the prevailing examination system to eliminate inordinate delays in results.
Speaking to media persons, Dhanagare said results of 41 out of 192 disciplines were announced after the prescribed time span of 45 days. Earlier, he felicitated meritorious students from arts, science and commerce streams.
The university would conduct examinations at college levels on the lines of Pune and Mumbai universities, if the colleges agree, Dr. Dhanagare said. He said a proposal to hand over the first and second year degree course to colleges was under consideration.
The university had so far announced results of 183 disciplines out of 192, Dr. Dhanagare said. The university has already explained the delay to the Chancellor. 8220;It is well known that the work-to-rule by the Sevak Sangh has been the sole reason for the delay,8221; Dhanagare said. No action was possible in this regard as necessary records were not maintained to pinpoint the responsibility, he added.
8220;However, explanation is being sought in 22 cases,8221; he said. 8220;Work so far was carried out on the basis of mutual trust, but now it will be necessary to put everything on record,8221; he said. Total computerisation of the exam section was on the cards, he said and wondered if even with the existing partial computerisation, results could have been declared in time.
The V-C admitted that students suffered due to the delay. 8220;We the university did try to maintain the academic schedule by directing the colleges to allow provisional admission,8221; he said. He expressed the hope that in future he would get the cooperation of the university staff and principals to re-establish its admirable tradition of conducting examination.
Among the students felicitated were bacholer of arts topper Archana Shinde of the Chhatrapati Shivaji College, Satara; science topper Rupali Patil of Dattajirao Kadam College, Ichalkaranji and commerce topper Preetam Daga of the Dhananjayrao Gadgil College of Commerce, Satara.
Pro-vice-Chancellor N.B. Patil, controller of examinations M.V. Bhosale and deputy registrar M.D. Bhandigare attended the function.
