MUMBAI, September 6: VG Vaze College, Mulund humbled St Andrew8217;s, Bandra 84-2 to retain the suburban division title in the District Sports Council Multigames inter-school basketball tournament conducted at Fatima Sports Club, Vidyavihar, today.

Vaze, fielding national players Gayatri Manolikar and Prachi Gole, were always favoured to win the title. But one expected Andrew8217;s, coached by NIS Kiran Kumar, to get away without any mud in their face. Hopes of Andrew8217;s putting on a brave show vapourised quickly, with Gayatri 38 points and Prachi 26 scoring at will.

Mary Immaculate Girls High School, Borivli, qualified for the U-17 district tournament when they defeated Apostolic Carmel 29-2. Sonia, with 24 points, accounted for 80 per cent of the score. The inter-school champions then notched a double when their U-14 girls defeated hosts Fatima 9-5.Dominic Savio, Ghatkopar, also claimed two titles.

Playing conditions deteriorated considerably after rains lashed the event. Sadly, the District Sports OfficeDSO continues to schedule this outdoor sport during the monsoons, while indoor events like badminton and judo are held later.
