Vajpayee was no volunteer

L K Advani8217;s book has been candid on many aspects and is indeed prompting others within the Parivar also to be more forthcoming. He wrote about RSS chief Rajju Bhaiya suggesting that A B Vajpayee be shifted from 7 Race Course Road to Rashtrapati Bhavan in 2002. More details are now emerging. It seems that Venkaiah Naidu, who was BJP president then, had also made the same suggestion to Vajpayee. Naidu sought a meeting with Vajpayee and floated the proposal. 8220;Whose idea is it?8221; Vajpayee demanded to know. Naidu apparently denied any RSS hand in it and claimed ownership of the idea by explaining to Vajpayee that it was his wish to see a swayamsewak in Raisina Hill. 8220;Our long-held wish of seeing a swayamsewak as PM has been fulfilled. Now we have an opportunity to have one as President too,8221; Naidu told Vajpayee. Vajpayee obviously did not see the need to boost such ambitions.
