Admissions to IIES today

Diwali crackers
The City police commissionerate on Monday announced that all those interested in selling fire crackers during the Diwali festival should send in their applications to the police commissioner’s office. An official spokesman said that the four copies of the stamped application, along with the map of the place where the temporary cracker shop is going to be set, up should be sent before October 10. For further information those interested have been asked to contact the commissioner’s office at Kothi building.
Scholarship
The Cultural Research and Training Centre (CRTC), New Delhi, has announced a scholarship scheme for children in the age group of 10-14 years who have excelled in the field of art and culture. An official spokesman here said that the centre provides scholarship for 300 such students and is aimed at providing education facilities to students in the field of music, dance, handicrafts and sculpture. The applicants should be born between 1 July, 1986 and 30 June 1990 and should be studying in recognised institutions. For further details interested children have been asked to contact District Education and Training centre at Karelibaug. The applications should reach the CRTC office in New Delhi before October 31, the spokesman added.
Competition
Sarjak Shah, a Std II B student of Bright School, won the first prize in a drawing competition organised by Banyan City early this week. Rachel Kapadia, a Std IV-D student of the same school, won the 2nd prize in the Open Baroda paper tearing and pasting competition held last week at Baroda High School, Alkapuri. The competition was organised by Baroda Metropolitan Junior Chamber.
Women’s meet
A two-day workshop organised by Vadodara Mahila Sangh for women labourers as part of “Workers Education Day” celebrations concluded on Friday at Bhalchandra Trivedi Hall in Gayatri Chambers. More than 70 labourers from unorganised and organised sectors attended the workshop. The workshop took up issues like “Women’s contribution to national unity”, “spiritual development of women” and “health, safety and environment” during the two-day programme which was attended, among others, by regional director of Workers Education Board Majmudar, Dean of the Social Work faculty Anil Navle, Dean of Faculty of Home Science Kalpanaben Parlikar, Professor Amita Verma of Women’s Study Research Centre and ITUC general secretary Rajkumar Singh.

Surat: Surat civic body chief Guruprasad Mohapatra has asked residents not to immerse Ganesh idols in the Weir-cum-Causeway. In a statement issued here, the commissioner said action would be taken against those found violating the directive.
