
Six more in ID Hospital
At least six more people were admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital, Karelibaug, on Monday, taking the number of gastro-enteritis patients in the city to 33. All six, residents of Golwad, Navi Dharti, Nagarwada, fell ill after drinking water from a VMC tap on Saturday. VMC Health Officer Shirish Patel said that a VMC team was currently examining the area and repairing leaking pipes.
Honoured
Several city-based woman litterateur, including Uma Deshpande, Payal Malvani, Jayshree Joshi, Nirjhari Mehta and Nalini Purohit, and freedom fighter Sarlaben Mehta were awarded for their literary work at the annual day celebrations of Asmita, a women8217;s organisation in the city. Chief guest Rajendra Pandya, joint information director praised the women for their literary prowess.
Meet deferred
A public meeting convened on Monday by various religious and voluntary organisations to protest against the Vadodara Municipal Corporation8217;s move to allot a piece of land close to Vaishnav Haveli and Swaminarayan Temple in Karelibaug to Sindhi shopkeepers was put off following an oral assurance by Mayor Ratilal Desai and Standing Committee chairman N V Patel. They said all differing contentions on the issue would be sympathetically considered.
Drinking water
Members of the non-teaching staff of M S University have provided drinking water facilities at five places of the city for the rally to be taken out to mark the university8217;s golden jubilee.
Pro-V-C8217;s plea
MSU Pro-VC Dipak Kumar De has asked members of the university to participate in the rally to be taken out on Wednesday, maintaining that it would be a success only if all the staff members and students participated in it.
Mahakavi8217;s bust
A function to unveil a bust of Mahakavi Premanand will be held at the Central Hall of the Faculty of Arts on Tuesday. The bust will be unveiled by reputed litteratuer Suresh Dalal in the presence of Yashwant Shukla, Nanalal Choksi and Haribhai Desai.
Summer buses
The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation will introduce weekend-special buses to Ajwa to meet the summer rush. The buses will run every Saturday from Amrakunj at 10.30 a.m. and will leave from Ajwa at 4.30 p.m.
