
Industrialist beaten up after mishap
City-based industrialist Dhiren Daftiri was beaten up by two motorists after having hit his car near Vishwamitri bridge late on Thursday night. The motorists were later arrested by Raopura police. According to an FIR first information report lodged at the Raopura police the accused pulled him out of the car and beat him up with chain. They also broke the window panes of his car.
PUCL hails
The People8217;s Union for Civil Liberties PUCL has welcomed the State Government8217;s withdrawal of the census on minorities. In a press release on Thursday, PUCL president Kirit Bhatt and secretary Dhiru Mistry stated, 8220;Such a census should not have been introduced in the first place as our Constitution treats all citizens equal before the law. Criminals have no religion and to mix up criminality with religion is an administrative blunder8221;.
PTA mela
The Parent-Teacher Association of Tejas Vidyalaya, Ellora Park will celebrate it8217;s annual PTA mela on Saturday from 6 pm. Padma Bhushan and noted cartoonist R K Laxman will be the chief guest on the occasion. A blood donation camp has also been organised on Saturday at 9 am.
Objections
The Central Gujarat Chamber of Commerce CGCC has invited objections and suggestions from persons concerned about the proposed hike in octroi charges announced by the VMC. These should be sent to the CGGC on Post Box Number 3746, Vadodara 8211; 390 007 latest by March 20. The proposed hike, inviting suggestions and objections from the Municipal Commissioner, was declared in the newspapers recently.
Contest finals
Students of the BBA course qualified for finals of the inter-faculty quiz contest organised here under the aegis of campus diversity by the department of English, Faculty of Arts on Thursday. The elimination rounds had begun a month ago at various faculty levels.
GPM dharna
The Gujarat Pustakalaya Mandal will stage a dharna outside the Guest House at Gandhinagar on March 8 at 10 am to protest against the 8220;apathy of State machinery to the deterioration of the government grant-aided libraries in rural and tribal areas of the State8221;, a release issued by Mandal president Ambubhai Patel said on Thursday.
