CHANDIGARH, April 15: UT District Attorney R. L. Sharma was today suspended by the Chandigarh Administration for alleged professional misconduct and also for allegedly misrepresenting facts before the Administration in the Jerath case.

According to sources, Sharma appeared as public prosecutor in a criminal appeal of an accident case in the district courts, where his son was also appearing as a defence counsel in the same case. This was termed as professional misconduct by the Administration, which is reported to be one of the major reasons for his suspension.

Sources also say that Sharma was handling the Jerath case in the district courts and he is alleged to have misrepresented certain facts before the Administration, which led to his suspension.

When contacted, Sharma said he had no knowledge of his suspension and alsorefused to discuss any of the reasons.

Meanwhile, the Chandigarh Administration has also repatriated, with immediate effect, an assistant district attorney Vijay Singla, to his parent state of Punjab. The exact reasons for the sudden repatriation could not be ascertained, but sources say that he was also handling the contentious Jerath case, which was stated to be the reason.
