In a major drive against ‘VVIP defaulters’, the Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration today snapped power supply to the residences of Uttaranchal Chief Minister N.D. Tiwari, four ex-CMs, three former ministers and some IAS officers, including the Agriculture Production Commissioner Brijendra Yadav.

The ex-CMs, whose power supply was cut, included Kalyan Singh, Ram Prakash Gupta and Ram Naresh Yadav. While Tiwari owes LESA Rs 5.7 Lakh, Kalyan Singh owes Rs 2.18 lakh, Ram Prakash Gupta Rs 2.2 lakh, and Ram Naresh Yadav Rs 8.1 lakh.

Others who faced power disconnection include late Vir Bahadur Singh’s son Fateh Bahadur Singh, former Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker Ammar Rizvi and Mohammed Arif. While Fateh Bahadur owes Rs 11.7 lakh, Rizvi owes Rs 4.39 lakh and Arif Rs 1.15 lakh.

Brijendra Yadav owes 9.2 lakh, former IAS officer V.N. Channa 1.08 lakh, State Election Commission chief Aparmita Singh 5.9 lakh, Secretary UP Janata Dal Rs 1.14 Lakh and Civil Services Institute Rs 23.8 lakh. Most VVIPs, sore about LESA’s drive, alleged it was vendetta. They also alleged that only non-BSP politicians and bureaucrats were targetted. They said their power bills had accumulated because of disputes with LESA on the billing.

Sources say LESA engineers kicked off their drive in protest against Power Minister Ramvir Upadhyay’s suspension of two engineers yesterday. The minister had raided a billing centre in the city.
