Two suspended over lake tragedy

While the zonal chief, assistant commissioner C J Gamit, and executive engineer Nitin Vaidya were transferred, two employees were suspended. The procedure to blacklist the contractor will be initiated, he said, adding that he had already ordered Ukani8217;s payments to be stopped and asked all zonal chiefs to cancel his contracts in other municipal zones.

While Additional City Engineer B M Desai will replace Gamit, K B Khalasi will replace Vaidya, who was looking after the lake development project.

While technical supervisor U N Rameshwala and junior engineer Y C Patel have been suspended, two technical assistants posted at north zone are to face a departmental enquiry, the civic chief said.

The commissioner, however, refused to disclose names of officials he wants to take action against.
