SURAT, June 7: Two city students shared the honours among the top 10 positions in the State in the Secondary School Certificate SSC examinations, whose results were declared on Monday. Shaneel Shah of Vadiwala V D Desai High School stood first in the city and fourth in the state while Parag Chevli of St Xaviers High School bagged the eighth position.

While the pass percentage for Surat city was 62.84, two students of Navsari 8212; Tanaz Soli Bacha and Riddhi Desai, both of Sheth R J J High School 8212; claimed the sixth and eighth positions in the State in the March 1999 examinations conducted by the Gujarat Secondary Education Board.

City topper Shaneel Shah told Express Newsline that he was overjoyed. 8220;This is a dream come true. I was expecting to be among the top five in the city, but this was a surprise.8221; Shaneel, son of Shailesh Shah, a surgeon by profession and Shobhna Shah, a gynaecologist, plans to be a doctor on the lines of his parents8217; profession. His father, too, said that he would become a doctor.

In fact, even as he was being declared topper of the city and fourth in the state, Shaneel was taking part in a Rapid Comprehension Review Techniques RCRT course at Mahavir Vidyadham. The 10-day course aims at increasing comprehension through meditation and pranayam.

Shaneel said he studied for about three hours while school was on and for about six hours after the prelims in February.

Monday saw anxious students and parents at the respective school premises since morning, waiting for the results to be declared. Once the results were declared, many were seen hugging parents, friends and relatives while those who failed to clear the examinations or got lesser marks than expected were seen disappointed.
