CHANGANASSERY, March 12: Vadamalai Loganathan rewrote his own two-year-old national record with a sterling performance on the opening day of the Seventh Federation Cup powerlifting championship at the Jubilee Municipal Town Hall here today.

The Tamil Nadu lifter hailing from Gudiyathyam in North Arcot improved upon his previous best of 556 kgs total by adding another five kgs in the men8217;s 52 kg class in the process. Loganathan, 23, also eclipsed his earlier national mark in the squat by raising the bar to 21.50 kgs OR 210. His Tamil Nadu team-mate Veerasamy finished a distant second with a total score of 490 kgs.
