Wavtal, that was premiered at the Asian film festival, is a sensitive take on terrorism and its aftermath
Wavtal means a twister and true to its name, the film tries to portray the myriad coils and complications that occur in a woman8217;s life post the tumultous Mumbai riots of 1992. Premiered at the Asian Film Festival, Wavtal is based on Anant Samant8217;s marathi novel K-Five and traces the dark journey of a victim of terrorism.
Director Shivaji Lotan Patil8217;s first film it also has many fresh talents including Puneite Tejaswini Pandit who plays the protagonist. Speaking on her experience Pandit says, 8220;When I first read the novel it was a very shocking narrative for me to absorb. And when I was told I have to play the central character, it took some accepting. This is my first project with a major role and for me it has been a very intrepid step working in the film. I have invested a lot of effort for the performance and the viewers so far have appreciated the role.8221;
The character of K-five is played by Ashok Samarth. Although a Muslim in the novel, his identity is only revealed through his personality in the film. Revealing his role Samarth says, 8220;I remain reserved and reticent in the film and that makes it one of the most challenging roles. I am shown to be insensitive and arrogant. However it is about the person that he is, irrespective of the religion or community he belongs to.8221; Patil finds the story extremely appealing as he adds, 8220;The book has been written so well that the visuals are automatically created while reading it. It might be a fiction but in the current times, the events are strong possibilities in anyone8217;s life.8221;
The film will be released in Marathi as well as Hindi. Well-known producer and director Aditi Deshpande aims to present the film to maximum audiences. 8220;As a filmmaker I feel it is my responsibility to promote good films. The film has been wonderfully executed and must be watched by maximum people. The best part is that most of them are new talents and they have wonderfully utilised the opportunity. Such good films will bridge the gap and get the viewers closer to Marathi cinema,8221; adds Deshpande.
