Followers and well-wishers gathered at Santa Fe in New Mexico to pay homage to Yogi Bhajan, a prominent figure of Sikhism in the West, who died on October six.

A master practitioner of both Hatha and Kundalini yoga, Yogi Bhajan founded the Sikh Dharma community in Espanola Valley in the 1960s.

Among the businesses the community now operates is Akal Security, the largest security provider to US federal courthouses.

President George W. Bush issued a proclamation conveying his condolences, while Senator. Hillary Clinton phoned to express her sympathy, The Albuquerque Journal reported.

Born Harbhajan Singh Puri in 1929 in Gujrawala town, now in Pakistan, Yogi Bhajan moved to Toronto in 1968 and then to Los Angeles.
