
CHANDIGARH, July 24: About 100 saplings were planted during the tree plantation drive organised by the Parent Teachers Association and staff of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 33-D here today. Under Secretary Education-cum-DPI Schools, D. S. Mangat, who presided over the function also inaugurated a special science library and the school canteen.
The PTA has already given a sum of Rs 20,000 for buying books for library.Speaking at the function, D. S. Mangat spoke about need to keep City green. He lamented that rapid urbanisation has led to a decrease in green cover.
Later, 28 teachers were honoured for their outstanding results and other achievements. Vijay Luxmi, the school accountant was honoured, besides Rakesh Kumar sweeper was also honoured for the good work.
A farewell was organised for former school Principal Brahmjit Kalia who has been promoted as the DEO. Students presented a cultural function including group songs on environment and the popular folk dance gidda8217;. Among others who were present at the function were Deputy Director, Sudesh Kalra and Adult Education and other officers of the Education Department.
