VADODARA, May 7: Mayor Ratilal Desai will inaugurate a new employment training centre in Manjalpur near Akansha complex on Friday. Municipal Commissioner Vilasini Ramachandran and chairman of the civic Public Works Committee will also be present in the inauguration of the centre, set up by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation.

DECISION DEFERRED: THE Standing Committee of the VMC, which met here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of N V Patel, deferred a decision to award contracts for installing hand pumps in various parts of the city at a cost of Rs 24 lakh.

Patel was not available for comments, but sources said the decision was possibly delayed as the proposals came at the eleventh hour in the supplementary agenda. Out of total 12 proposals, which were sent in the supplementary agenda, only six were approved. The Committee also deferred a decision to set up a sump near Harni. Sources said the decision would be taken after studying the site.

INAUGURATED: STANDING Committee Chairman N V Patel on Tuesday night inaugurated Loknatya Bhavai programme. The programme, organised at 98, Ramwadi, Navayard Ramdevpir8217;s Temple, depicted various State Government schemes. Speaking on the occasion, Patel said the aim of bhavai should be to educate and spread awareness among the community.

PATHARAS REMOVED: THE Encroachment removal squad of the VMC on Wednesday removed 45 unauthorised patharas, 15 kachha tents and eight hand carts from near the Mental Hospital, Vitthalnagar, Makarpura road and Jambuva areas of the city.
