PUNE, Sept 9: Chief Commissioner of Income tax J M Mehra on Wednesday gave an assurance that a touring bench of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal ITAT will be in Pune next month. He was speaking at the meeting organised by the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture MCCIA.

Taxpayer8217;s grievances, from problems of assessments and appeals to refunds, searches, seizures and surveys were discussed at the meeting. 8220;We are moving toward simplification of tax laws,8221; he said, adding that the actual revenue from taxes collected in the country this year was Rs 44,000 crore, though the target had been Rs 56,000 crore.

The tax deducted at source TDS now applies to rent and commission also, thus increasing the responsibility of the tax payer toward TDS, he said.

G N Gadgil, chairman, direct taxation sub-committee explained the issues raised by the members as per the note submitted to the Chief Commissioner. Shantilal Shah, chairman, state level taxation sub committee proposed the vote of thanks.

The discussion was attended by commissioners of income tax from Nagpur, Thane, Kolhapur, Nasik and Aurangbad. The director and additional director of Investigation were also present.
