Ikat is an ancient tie-and-dye technique that has become a favourite with celebrities like Rachel Bilson, Kristen Bell and Katherine Heigl. Designers Zara, Oscar De La Renta and Kazo have used this technique in their collections recently. Back home ikat found its place on the catwalk long back in Ranna Gill’s 2006 India Fashion Week collection. The prints are back with a bang and everyone wants to don it. “The prints are bold and make a strong statement. Ikat prints are perfect for the summer,” says designer Nandita Mahtani. From ikat tops to dresses, the options are many. However, make sure you don’t over-do the look. Pair an ikat top with a pair of blue jeans or a plain skirt. “Don’t wear too much jewellery, especially on your limbs. Since the print is too loud, the jewellery will make you look overdone,” advises designer Nikasha Tawadey.
