Call it a brain-drain of a different kind. In an era when Indian juniors flock to the US to iron their tennis skills, 38-year-old Mumbai-born Mohesh Koregaonkar runs a highly successful tennis academy in Pennsylvania. Though at the moment he is in Mumbai coaching Karan Rastogi at the ATP event, his CV shows star wards like Andy Roddick, the Williams sisters and Jennifer Capriati.
Says Mohesh: 8220;To them nationality doesn8217;t matter as long as you are competent, so I had no problems in convincing them that an Indian too can coach.8221;
The son of legendary former Mumbai coach RV Koregaonkar, Mohesh says 8220;my elder brother Shailesh was an in-demand coach in Mumbai in the mid-eighties.8221;
Mohesh migrated to the US in 1989. 8220;I joined the Rick Macci Tennis Academy in Orlando, which is well known for grooming young talent,8221; says Mohesh. Since the academy was a non-commercial programme that attracted hordes of youngsters, Mohesh got a chance to catch the future stars early. 8220;That was when I had the opportunity to work with the Williams sisters and Capriati,8221; informs Mohesh.
But it is his association with the former world No 1 Roddick that he cherishes the most. 8220;I8217;m with Team Roddick since he was seven and have been giving my coaching inputs,8221; says Mohesh.
