A thai man died in hospital today from injuries suffered in the series of bombings that hit Bangkok on New Year8217;s Eve, bringing the death toll to three, medical officials said.
Two other Thai men were killed late yesterday when eight coordinated bombs hit the capital. Over 30 others were injured, with some 20 hospitalised. The Narenthorn centre said some of those hospitalised were released early today, but could not release new figures.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks, which marked the first significant violence in Bangkok in more than a decade.
However, ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his supporters have emerged as the prime suspects in the blasts. The military-backed government fueled that speculation today by virtually ruling out Islamic insurgents in the country8217;s restive south as suspects and blaming the attacks on unnamed politicians.
In a possible sign investigators were zeroing in on Thaksin, the top aide to the former prime minister, Prommin Lertsuridej, was ordered today to report to the Council for National Security, the military panel propping up a post-coup interim government.
