Proving their mettle once again, BMCC students made city proud by bagging the best play award at recently concluded Thespo festival in Mumbai. The play Dalan, a marathi play presented by a team of the present and past students of BMCC, got the best play award. Thespo festival, which was conducted at Prithvi Theatre and NCPA, is an annual youth theatre festival. It intends to recognise, encourage and showcase India8217;s best youth theatre talent and provide guidance and training to the future stars of theatre. A total of 55 teams throughout the country had participated in the festival.

8220;The story of Dalan is based in rural India in which the teacher has an ability to presume the beauty of the mother by looking at the child. Thus, the comedy unfurls,8221; says Nipun Dharmadhikari, the director of the play. Thespo being a national event, nearly 60 per cent of the crowd was non-Marathi, yet the response was huge and the Prithvi theatre was completely packed which is quite rare for a Marathi play. I can proudly say that we managed to break all language barriers8221;, added an elated Dharmadhikari.

8220;Winning four out of eight awards was unexpected, as we started rehearsing only a month back,8221; said a jubilant Amey Wagh, who has won the best actor award for his role. Amey has gained popularity in recent times due to his lead role in the movie Joshi Ki Kamble, the first marathi movie on reservation, which was also screened at the 6th Asian Film Festival, in Pune.

Alok Rajwade, who won the best supporting actor, is all praise for his director. Abhay Mahajan scripted the play, which bagged the best script award while Rohit Nikam wrote the songs and Gandhar Sangoram composed the music. The rest of the team includes Amol Gokhale, Amruta Bhagwat, Deepti Bawiskar and Saurabh Daftardar.
