
Sikhs take out festive procession on the ocassion of Guru Granth Sahib tercentenary
MG Road wore a festive look on Sunday evening, Chants of Waheguru, Waheguru were buzzing all over the road as more than twenty thousand Sikhs participated in a two and a half kilometre long 8220; Nagar Keertan8221; procession from Gurudwara Guru Singh Sabha in Ganesh Peth to Hollywood Gurudwara in Pune camp on the occasion of tercentenary of the holy Guru Granth Sahib, who the 10th and the last guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh named as his successor. PC Pasricha former Director General of Police inaugurated the procession.
Keertans were played and crackers bursted. Lassi, cold drinks and sweets were distributed to people all along the way. Crowds gathered to watch Sikhs displaying traditional martial arts introduced by Sikh Gurus for self-defence. Kids dressed in traditional Sikh outfits could be seen riding on 40 horse buggies that participated in the procession.
Volunteers were seen cleaning the streets through which the procession passed. 8220; We did not want other people to be affected. So, more than 150 volunteers picked up waste wrappers of eatables and other garbage from all the streets through which the procession passed. A water tanker also followed the procession to clean the streets,8221; said Kabir Singh Sayal, Working Committee member of the procession committee.
Keertans and Langar will be organised at Gurudwara Guru Singh Sabha on October 23, 24 and 25 as a part of the celebrations.
