
SRINAGAR, AUG 16: Panic gripped Amarnath pilgrims today when a tent, set up by the government en route to the mountain-locked holy cave, caught fire in mysterious circumstances.
There was, however, no loss of life in the incident which occurred at 3657 mt high Panjtarni, an official spokesman told newsmen here.
Meanwhile, a fresh batch of 2,631 pilgrims today left Jammu for Chandanwari, base camp of the holy cave shrine raising the total number of pilgrims leaving for Kashmir to more 79,000, according to police.
The fresh batch of pilgrims left in 120 vehicles from city high security MAM Stadium, police said.
Of the 2,631 pilgrims, 1,695 were males, 648 females, 32 children and 256 sadhus, police said.
