Additional police was rushed to Badnaur in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district today to calm tension following damage to an idol at the Neelkanth Mahadev Temple in the town.
Police said a company of Rajasthan Armed Constabulary was sent from Bhilwara, besides additional force from Shambugarh and Asind to control the situation.
Tension gripped the town, nearly 80 km from here, after the idol of Goddess Parvati was found broken at the temple on Tuesday morning.
VHP and Bajrang Dal workers soon blocked the Bhilwara-Beawar Road and shutters were downed in the market.
Badnaur was in the news on Saturday also when the VHP distributed tridents to more than 500 people at a ‘‘diksha’’ ceremony. More than 200 ‘‘Dharam Sammelans’’ and trident-distribution programmes of the VHP are scheduled in the district over the next 25 days.
