ROHTAK, Nov 12: A one-day sit in strike was observed by the telecom staff in support of their demands which included a hike in pay-scales here today.

The call for strike was given by five units of the union which included All India Telegraph Traffic Class 111, All India Telecom Employees8217; Union Class 111 N, All India Telecom Administrative Employees8217; Union, All India Telecom Civil Wing Employees8217; Union Group C and D and Indian Telecom Employees8217; Union Lines Staff and Group D.

Kurukshetra: Residents, especially the scribes had tough time sending dispatches as the employees of All India Telegraph Traffic Employees8217; Union Class III struck work today.

Speaking strongly against the pay disparities among the Class III employees of postal and telegraph departments, the Union district secretary Nafe Singh objected to more than 50 per cent posts lying vacant in the department. He said that though additional work of collection of telephone revenue at the counters of telegraph offices and telecom centres had been introduced, no additional staff was assigned for the purpose. He also demanded that the staff recruited on casual and part-time basis be regularised immediately.

Chandigarh: The Joint Council of Telecom Employees Unions, Punjab circle, today claimed in a press release that the employees of Department of Telecom observed a total tool-down strike.

The sit-in and tool-down strike was observed on the call given by five different unions of the department to protest against the inimical attitude of the Union government towards the employees.

According to R.L.Moudgil, circle secretary of AITTEU Class III, the workers would oppose conversion of the Department of Telecom into a corporation, would favour upgradation of pay scales and fresh recruitment. The leaders demanded pay parity among the employees working in the telecom factories and the rest of the employees of the department.
