PATIALA, April 23: The school teachers, assigned duties for conducting economic census, held a protest rally in the State College of Education, here yesterday.The teachers, protesting against their ``burdening'', pointed out that their teaching schedule had been disturbed as they had earlier been involved in the AIDS awareness, anti-leprosy and hepatitis B eradication campaigns. They said that they had also been involved in revision of electoral rolls and in election duties.The agitated teachers demanded that widows, couples and employees with one year to go for retirement should be totally exempted from the job. Reports of similar protests have poured in from Rajpura and Nabha also. The rally by the agitators continued for nearly two hours before they were pacified by the officials of the Administration and the Education Department.IMPLEMENTATION OF PAY SCALES DEMANDED: Members of the Democratic Teachers' Front (DTF), Punjabi University, have supported the agitation of Delhi University Teachers' Association by boycotting invigilation and evaluation work of examinations for immediate implementation of UGC grades for college and university teachers. Convenor of DTF R.S. Ghuman said that the BJP government at the Centre had gone back on its promise to implement these grades on a priority basis.
