VADODARA, Sept 29: The M S University syndicate has accepted the resignation of the Commerce faculty Dean J K Syan after debating it for more than an hour.
The members contended that Syan8217;s resignation should not have been accepted by the Vice-Chancellor, Anil Kane, under the special XIV power of the University Act. Speaking about it, syndicate member Pragnesh Shah said, 8220;The power is exercised only when the resignation has to be accepted with immediate effect.8221;
Shah added that the syndicate members said that the decision should have been taken after consulting syndicate members. 8220;The resignation has now been accepted by the syndicate, and not under the special power of the V-C,8221; said Shah.
Among other decisions, the syndicate has appointed a seven-member committee to look into the utilisation of the development fee which was being collected from students annually. The committee includes Ghanshyam Dalal, Shireesh Kulkarni, Pragnesh Shah, V D Pathak, Nilesh Shukla, and L M Joshi.
Shah said that the committee would review the situation and see to it that the fee was used for the students. The syndicate has also decided to re-consider the decision of allowing students who were detected at fault by the unfair means committee to go unpunished.
The syndicate has also sanctioned the purchase of computers as decided earlier. However, it has not discussed anything on the issues raised by the NSUI members.
