Amid uproar from the Opposition benches over the Punjab government’s termination of water sharing accords, Union Law Minister H.R. Bhardwaj told the Rajya Sabha that the government was examining the legal aspects of the case and some action will be taken within two-three days.
Answering Leader of the Opposition Jaswant Singh, Bhardwaj said: ‘‘It is a serious issue. We are examining all legal aspects. We will take some action within two-three days.’’
Contradicting the Opposition’s charge that the government was surrendering the issue before the Supreme Court, the Law Minister said it was unfair to allege that the Government has not moved on the issue. ‘‘Certainly, we will examine the whole gamut. We will take the House into confidence. Please, cooperate with us.’’ Bhardwaj’s reply was twice interrupted by BJP members with Jaswant Singh requesting the House should be ‘‘benefited with the knowledge of what the Government is planning, before the session’’ is over on July 23. Meanwhile, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and PM Manmohan Singh today met a 11-member delegation led by Haryana Congress chief Bhajan Lal.
