MUMBAI, July 11: When Swami Maheshanand opened the door of his room at the Chinmayananda Ashram at Powai on Friday morning, he probably had no inkling that death had come a-calling.
Saki Naka police say the 65-year-old swami, whose body was found in a pool of blood, must have been acquainted with his killer as there is no sign of forced entry. Moreover, police point out, the assailant had clearly arrived at the swami8217;s second floor apartment between midnight on Thursday and 6 am on Friday, which points to an inside job8217;.
Investigations reveal that booty worth around Rs 20,000 was stolen from his room, including two crossed cheques of Rs 500 and Rs 201.
