Congress workers stage dharna
Surat: The city unit of the Congress on Monday held a dharna in front of the district collectorate in protest against the 8220;misrule8221; by the Bharatiya Janata Party government and the 8220;deteriorating law and order situation.8221; Led by city president Thakorbhai Naik and other leaders, Congress activists held the protest from 10 am to 5 pm. They were also agitating against what they called the illegal arrest under PASA of Katargam ward Congress chief Raghavji Gaekwadi. The police were acting with vengeance at the instance of BJP leaders, the protestors alleged, demanding immediate release of Gaekwadi. They also held a public meeting late on Monday and threatened to intensify their agitation, if Gaekwadi was not released soon.
Internet seminar
The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry SGCCI and the South Gujarat Productivity Council have organised a seminar on Internet on Tuesday at Samruddhi, Nanpura. General manager of Surat Telecom District Y P Kataria will inaugurate the seminar, which will highlight browsing, file transfer protocol, E-mail, Internet for business and social and other aspects of the net. The programme will begin at 3.30 p.m.
The Total Quality Management Centre organised a workshop on the Role of the Trade Union Leader in the Global Economy8217; recently, which was attended by 37 delegates from various industries. The objective of the workshop was to find ways how trade unions and managements should work in the global economy and avoid industrial sickness. President of TQM Dr B C Naidu spelled out a 20-point agenda that was circulated to the participants. Prominent among those who attended the workshop were Deputy labour commissioner of Surat A K Bhasin, Sumul MD P R Patel, General Secretary of All-India Bank Employees Union, S Bharat Kumar, former president of Surat Trade Union Council Purohit K G.
BSP dharna
Vadodara: The city unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party BSP will stage a dharna here on Wednesday in protest against the rising prices of essential commodities and alleged non-secular attitude of the Bharatiya Janata Party. In a statement, the party has alleged the BJP of behaving in a biased manner against the 8220;bahujan samaj8221;. The party members will also submit a memorandum to the district collector.
