10-year-old dies of sunstroke
Mangala Kelgi, a 10-year-old girl of the city, died on Sunday night in the New Civil hospital after suffering from a sunstroke, according to the Udhna police.

According to a statement by the deceased’s father Chandu Bansi Kelgi, Mangala went out to play at noon. Later in the evening, she again went out to play. However, at around 7.30 in the evening, she began vomiting and complained of headache. Immediately afterwards, she fainted and was rushed to the New Civil hospital, but succumbed around midnight.

Collector’s plea
District Collector R M Shah has urged the agitating teachers of the South Gujarat University to reconsider their decision not to return answer-scripts in their possession in an attempt to force the university to increase their remuneration for assessment. He made this suggestion to office-bearers of South Gujarat College and University Teachers’ Association, who called on him on Monday in the wake of his threat to initiate criminal proceedings if they did not hand over answers-cripts to moderators or chairpersons of boards of examinations.

Reconciliation
In what appears to be a move towards reconciliation, former chief minister Amarsingh Chaudhary came all the way from Gandhinagar to Vyara to attend the wedding of his two sons. Chaudhary’s estranged wife Gajraben reportedly indicated that she might withdraw the court case against her husband. Chaudhary’s second marriage with MP Nishaben had prompted Gajraben to file a case against her husband.

Counselling
Bhagubhai Patel will guide students seeking admissions in std XI on Tuesday at the District Education Bhavan located in the Chowk Baazar area. He will be available between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. for counselling. Patel has prepared an exhaustive guide, which contains information about various educational institutions in the country, courses conducted by them, the number of seats available, cut off marks and admission procedures.

Truck seized
The Dangs district administration seized a truck carrying groundnuts from outside Gujarat, violating the state government ban on movement of oilseeds and oil out of the state. A truck belonging to Santoshi Travels was halted on suspicion and seized last week. The truck was carrying 10 tonne grounduts and was heading for Beed in Maharashtra .
