
Quality award instituted for SSIs
Development commissioner in the Union Industry Ministry has constituted a national award for best quality in the small scale sector for the year 1998. Small scale units operating for the last four years and which got their registration between January 1, 1995 and December 31, 1998 are eligible for the award. Desai8217;s appeal
Noted social worker Prof. Hakumat Desai has appealed to people to protest against the raise in power tariff. In past one year the Gujarat Electricity Board has increased 56 paise per unit through fuel charges and electricity duty. From the existing 121 paise per unit, fuel charges have been increased by 40 paise. Prof. Desai has asked consumer to cross-check the bill for September with those from previous months.

Surat Citizen8217;s Council has asked consumers of Gujarat Gas Company Limited to approach the Council in case of any grievance against the company, which has recently hiked its charges. GGCL has increased the domestic and industrial tariff by 20.5 per cent and the minimum charges have been raised by Rs 88 per month. Incidentally, the company is increasing its charges every six months. The Council has asked those with any suggestions against the increased charges to approach it before September 15.
Talk on NEP
Sharad Joshi, noted farmer leader of Maharashtra, will deliver a talk on 8220;Economic Liberalisation and Agriculture8221; at 3 pm on September 7 at the Seminar Hall of the Centre for Social Studies.
SBI camp
Vadodara: Raopura and Sayajiganj branches of the State Bank of India will hold a camp to exchange soiled Re 1, Rs 2 and Rs 5 notes. The camp will be held near Baroda Departmental Store, Kadak Bazar. The notes will be replaced with coins. According to SBI8217;s Raopura branch manager Shyam Kharade this is the first ever camp of its kind.
43rd FSSI AGM
The Federation of Small Scale Industries, Baroda, held its 43rd annual general meeting recently. Mahendra Chaudhary was elected president of the federation while Naresh Chandra was elected vice-president. The other office-bearers are: Navnit Patel honourary secretary, Hitendra Panchal joint secretary and Mahesh Shah treasurer, a press release said.
