
Shelat is Surat IMA president
Dr Nimish R Shelat was installed president of the Surat branch of the Indian Medical Association for the year 1999-2000, on Sunday. The installation ceremony was organised by outgoing president of the IMA, Dr Tony Nicholas, and secretary Dr Vinod Shah.
AIDS awareness
To create an awareness about AIDS, the State health department has decided to burn the effigy of AIDS Rakshas8217; on Tuesday on the occasion of Dussehra. The symbolic effigy will be burnt at the Municipal Grounds, in Varachha, at 7 pm.
Meeting
Elected representatives of the coordination committee met the district collector on Saturday. The meeting was called to resolve issues relating to rural areas of Surat district. MLA Dheerubhai Gajera, Olpad MLA Dhanshukh Patel raised various issues relating to their constituencies. District collector Sangeeta Singh assured to look into the problems brought to her notice.
Inauguration
Vadodara: The 150th branch of the Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank Limited will be opened at the Shivam Building, 40, Vishwas Colony on the R C Dutt Road on Wednesday. While Chairman and Managing Director of the bank K G Ramanathan will inaugurate the office and managing director of PBM Polytex Ltd Gopal Patodia the computer operations, Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria will declare open the safe room.
Cancer hospital
Chief minister Keshubhai Patel will lay the foundation stone of the Kailash Cancer Hospital and Research Centre at the Muniseva Ashram at Goraj village in Waghodia taluka on Tuesday. While Minister of State for Health Ashok Bhatt will be the chief guest, writer Gunwant Shah will be the guest of honour.
Club to open
Former MP Ranjitsinh Gaekwad will inaugurate the Senior Citizens8217; Club, near Kirti Sthambh, on the Rajmahal Road, on Tuesday. Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee treasurer Anujbhai Lalitchandra Patel will be the chief guest on the occasion.
GSFC Function
State energy minister Kaushik Patel inaugurated the Rs 32-crore De-bottlenecking unit at the Gujarat State Fertilisers and Chemicals Company here at a function on Saturday. He also appreciated various developmental projects and technological advancements made by the GSFC and urged the workers to work for the welfare of society and the nation. The function was attended by several senior officials of the department and GSFC, an offical release said.
Contest
The Faculty of Arts, MS University, will organise a general knowledge contest in faculty8217;s room no 13 on October 25 noon.
