557th lok adalat on January 9
The 557th Lok Adalat of Gujarat will be held at Shramjivi Vidyalaya, Surat, at 9 am on January 9. Organised by the Surat District Legal Services Authority Board and the Surat District Bar Association in association with the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority Board, Ahmedabad, the Lok Adalat will be inaugurated by Gujarat High Court Justice A M Kapadia. Trade unionist Naishadhbhai Desai will preside over the inauguration, while member of Industrial Court, Surat, G S Patel and Labour judge I G Makwana will be the guests of honour.

Safety Week
Inculcation of civic sense among citizenry by the joint efforts of the traffic branch of Surat police, Regional Transport Office, Surat Municipal Corporation, non-governmental organisations and educational institutions, was emphasised by Assistant Police Commissioner M P Singh for reducing the growing number of road accidents in the city, while kicking off Road Safety Week, organised by the traffic police and Lions Club on Monday. RTO K M Patel, Director of Planning R D Desai, GSRTC Divisional Controller Nanubhai Patel, were among those who attended the function.

GSEB directive
District Education Officer Natwarsinh Parmar said the Gujarat Secondary Education Board directive on holding one period of vocational course for the students of std IX would be implemented in Surat. To apprise teachers of the directive, training camps for teachers, who would engage those classes, would be held from January 5 to 8. The classes will be held at T and T V High School Jan 5, at S B S High School, Bardoli Jan 6, and J V High School, Vyara Jan 7 for teachers from schools in their respective regions.
