
Sahu holds meeting
Member of the Commission for Backward Classes Akshaybhai Sahu held a meeting with government representatives to review recruitment of backward classes in government jobs. Sahu, who was in the city, met the district superintendent of police, resident deputy collector, academics from the Centre for Social studies, LIC officials and sought their suggestions on how to clear the backlog in recruitment. The member suggested that there should be representatives of backward classes in every selection committee to ensure that injustice is not done to any candidate of the backward class.
Mock drill
The Kakrapar Atomic station is conducting an off sight emergency drill on December 12. The proposed drill will be carried out at Motiyer in Mandvi taluka.
Meet cancelled
A meeting of private school managements and striking teachers, slated to be held on Tuesday at the collectorate, has been cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances, a release issued by the collectorate on Monday said. DEO Natwar Parmar said all concerned parties should take note of the postponement and the new date will be announced later. The collector and DEO had called for the meeting to end the impasse between striking teachers and the school managements.
Journalist dead
Senior journalist Suryakant Vyas, working with a local daily Gujarat News Flash8217; died late on Sunday evening while on duty. Vyas was 67. The journalist suffered a massive heart failure in the office and was rushed to the Maskati hospital, where he was declared dead on admission. He is survived by his wife and five children. A condolence meeting was held on Monday evening at his residence in Sayyedpura area after his cremation in the afternoon. Vyas worked in the Times of India8217; Gujarati, Garvi Gujarat8217;, Pratap8217; and Sandesh8217; earlier.
