Brian Lara set a new world record for the most runs in Test cricket. His brilliant 226 against Australia at Adelaide on Saturday lifted his career tally to 11,187 from 121 Tests, eclipsing the previous record of 11,174 held by former Australian captain Allan Border

Lara8217;s record-breaking double-century also gave the tourists a chance of winning the last Test after being easily beaten in the first two. They finished with an impressive first innings total of 405, while Australia responded with 229-3 at close of play on Day Two.
