Maverick minister for sports and transport Subhas Chakrabarthy on Thursday took on both Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi and the Calcutta High Court for taking the state government to task. And he used the floor of the Assembly to voice his opinions.“We also share the concern expressed by the Governor. But he could have called the Chief Minister. Instead, he issued the statement. There should be a debate on the constitutional limits imposed on Government functionaries. This should include all, the executive, the Governor, the court,” Chakrabarthy said in the assembly during the Zero Hour. Later, at the CPI(M) MLA’s chamber, the minister renewed his attack. “The Governor’s words are not gospel truth. He has transgressed his limits. I have never seen any Governor intervening in such a manner.” Incidentally, the Governor today had gone to Tamluk to meet victims of the firing. Chakrabarthy also criticised the court’s ordering a CBI inquiry. “Who the hell is the CBI? Give me one instance when they have solved a case.”
