SAS NAGAR, Jan 5: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today laid the foundation of Khalsa College Amritsar Centenary Bhawan at Phase-IIIA in the township and sanctioned a sum of Rs 5 lakh for the construction of the Bhawan.

The foundation laying ceremony began with shabad Deh shiva bar mohen yeh8217; and concluded with the National song sung by Khalsa College students. In his welcome address, the president of Old Khalsa College Amritsar Students Association Swaran Singh Boparai said that the Bhawan, spread over 2.25 acre of plot, would cost the Association Rs 10 crore. The Bhawan will have a community hall, centre for higher studies, cultural wing, dispensary, library and senior citizens home. Others who contributed Rs 1 lakh each were oldest Khalsa student Santokh Singh 98, Jasjeet Singh, son of late Bishen Singh Samundry and Bibi Pritam Kaur.

Earlier, Parkash Singh Badal was presented siropas by the local Akali Jatha circle and Youth Akali Dal. A memorandum was presented by SAS Nagar Danga Pidit Society to him highlighting problems being faced by them. Among other prominent people present on the occasion were R.S Mann principal secretary to the Chief Minister, Rakesh Inder Singh, secretary, Industries and Member of Parliament Rajmohinder Singh Gill, local MLA Bibi Daljit Kaur.
