
The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad ATS arrested a Pakistani Military Intelligence PMI spy 8212; Abdul Jabbar alias Siqander from Charbagh area on Wednesday.
The accused was traced when the Intelligence Bureau IB intercepted his phone calls.
Additional Director General of Police Law and Order Brij Lal said the ATS has seized a photocopy of a passport which carried Siqander8217;s name and an address of Makarpura, Majalpur Road in Vadodara.
The team has also recovered a cellphone, fake Indian currency of the face value of Rs 9,000, hand-drawn maps of Lucknow Cantonment and some vital information about the Army Central Command, the ADG said.
Deputy Inspector General ATS, Rajiv Krishna said: 8220;Jabbar, a Pakistani national and native of Meethadhar Kharadar area in Karachi, has undergone training with the PMI for nine months.8221;
8220;Jabbar had entered India through the porous Nepal border a week ago. He had to send some information to a colonel rank official in the PMI using PCOs or the Internet. He has not revealed about his role in any of the terror operations here so far,8221; he added.
Senior Superintendent of Police ATS Rajiv Sabbarwal said: 8220;The accused had purchased the SIM card from a district of the Eastern Uttar Pradesh and was in regular contact with Pakistani officials on the cellphone.8221;
In the course of interrogation, the accused revealed before the ATS officials that he had been involved in gambling and drug racket in Karachi and used to provide fake passports using forged documents of identification.
Two of the PMI officials had contacted him in 2007 asking him to engage with the Army intelligence wing for some handsome perks.
Jabbar also said the Pakistan officials also assured to look after the requirements of his family. Later, he was sent to Kathmandu by air.
Another PMI official at Kathmandu arranged his stay at different guesthouses there. It was the same official who helped him intrude into the Indian territory through the porous Nepal-Maharajganj border. The DIG said they would seek the remand of the accused from the court for an extensive interrogation.
