Major blaze in Delhi8217;s electrical goods market

NEW DELHI: ELECTRICAL goods worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed in a devastating fire at the Lajpatrai Market in the walled city in the wee hours of Friday. There were no reports of any casualty. At least 10 shops were completely gutted while two three-storeyed buildings collapesed. Although exact cause of fire is not known, authorities suspect a short-circuit to have sparked off the fire.

The fire was reported at 0022 hours and it took over four hours for 33 fire tenders to douse the fire. During the operation, two fire brigade jawans Narendra Kumar and Rotesh Kumar 8212; sustained minor injuries.

Militants kidnap two in Agartala

AGARTALA: SUSPECTED ATTF militants abducted two persons from Ambasa, headquarters of Dhalai district on Thursday. The incident occured around 1500 hours when Rikmini Debnath and Sit Debnath were returning home. The kidnappers have demanded a ransom of rupees one lakh for the release of the two.

Six die in head-on collision

DALTONGANJ: SIX persons were killed and four injured on Friday when a jeep, in which they were travelling, dashed against a truck near Singra village on the Daltonganj-Gargwa Road, about eight kms from here. The injured were admitted to Garhwa district hospital where the condition of one of them was stated to be 8220;serious8221;. The accident occurred when the group was returning after attending a marriage ceremony.

UP to give Ambedkar award

LUCKNOW: UTTAR Pradesh Government has decided to honour a person every year with Dr Ambedkar Gaurav Award8217; for his distinguished contribution in enhancing nation building ideoloty of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar. The award will carry a cash prize of Rs 1.25 lakh, a citation and a shawl.

Over 100 hit by poisoning

RAJKOT: OVER a hundred persons, including children and women, were admitted to hospitals for suspected food poisoning after they complained of diarrhoea at three different functions in the districts of Rajkot and Surendranagar on Thursday night.
