
Surat firing: CAT quashes order to suspend IPS officers
AHMEDABAD: The Central Administrative Tribunal CAT has quashed the State Government order suspending two senior IPS officers for firing on a procession in Surat during Ganesh mahotshav last month, which claimed seven lives.
A CAT division bench, comprising V Ramakrishnan and P C Kannan, in their order on Wednesday observed that no foundation had been laid while deciding the suspension of Vipul Vijoy and Manoj Agarwal, the then Additional Police Commissioner and Deputy Police Commissioner respectively of Surat.
Bailable warrant against IAS officer
NEW DELHI: A city court issued bailable warrant against an IAS officer for his failure to appear before the court in a land acquisition case in which a family has been fighting for compensation for the last 19 years.
Additional district judge J M Malik recently issued the warrant against Sub Divisional Magistrate cum Land Acquisition Collector LAC of Narela, Chandrakar Bharti, askinghim to appear before the court on October 27, the next date of hearing, along with the compensation amount as decided earlier.
Cop killed in Manipur ambush
IMPHAL: A police constable was killed and a police driver injured in an ambush by armed activists at Lalltinkhal village in Imphal East district on Wednesday evening. Sources said some armed activists ambushed a police party on its way from 5th Manipur Rifles post at Jakurakhor in the district bordering Assam.
The police personnel were from Jiribam police station who had gone to drop the salaries of the Manipur Rifles personnel at the post, they said.
Ancient idols seized in Karnataka
BANGALORE: Three ancient panchaloha idols have been seized and two persons, who were trying to sell them, arrested in Kanakapura in Karnataka by the sleuths of Corps of Detectives COD. The idols, stated to be 200-year-old, were suspected to have been stolen from a temple, COD DGP V V Bhaskar said.
The two, arrested recently, were beinginterrogated, he said adding they were trying the sell the antique idols for Rs 35 lakh.
TTD earns Rs 4 cr during navratri
TIRUPATI: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams TTD administering the famous Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirumala near here, has netted a revenue of Rs 4.73 crore during the nine-day navarathri brahmotsavam which concluded on Wednesday.
According to a TTD press release, the total revenue had come down by Rs 1.6 lakh compared to the annual brahmotsavam which was held in September.
39 medicos arrested in Punjab
HOSHIARPUR: As many as 39 medical practitioners of this district have been arrested for practising medicine without bonafide training or qualification. Senior SP R P Mittal said that those nabbed were among the 497 resident medical practitioners RMPs against whom police had registered cases following a direction from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
